The El-Roi Eye Group is filled with immense pride in announcing a significant historic achievement for our Founder and CEO, Dr. Jerome Abaka-Cann, OD, FAAO.
On November 8, 2024 in Indianapolis, USA, Dr. Abaka-Cann was officially inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO) in the highly prestigious Special Category.
This achievement is groundbreaking: Dr. Abaka-Cann, alongside Dr. Mina Edah, a Nigerian Naval Commander and Optometrist, became the first two Africans ever to achieve Fellowship in the Special Category of the American Academy of Optometry (AAO).
This special recognition is awarded to individuals who have made significant, documented contributions to optometry or vision science through roles outside of typical clinical practice or research, such as administration, education, or entrepreneurial activities.
Dr. Abaka-Cann earned this coveted distinction based on his outstanding leadership and entrepreneurial activities that have profoundly impacted the development of eye care services in Ghana and the West African region.
This includes:
The founding and scaling of the El-Roi Eye Group, which is now the largest private eye care network in West Africa.
The establishment of the El-Roi Eye Foundation, which drives the Group's social enterprise mission and philanthropic activities.
As a Group, we are exceptionally proud of Dr. Jerome Abaka-Cann for this remarkable milestone. His commitment to innovation, excellence, and social impact continues to inspire our entire organization.
The El-Roi Eye Group is committed to upholding the pioneering spirit demonstrated by our CEO and will continue to strive for more historic firsts in clinical care, technology, and service delivery across the African continent.
We offer our warmest congratulations to Dr. Jerome Abaka-Cann for this monumental achievement!
